This class was built to fill gaps in knowledge and introduce herbal options for preventing pregnancy positioned within a larger ecosystem of holistic reproductive health.

Managing our fertility potential is a sacred and complex responsibility we hold through decades and diverse seasons of life. While there are excellent and highly effective methods of preventing pregnancy available with pharmaceuticals, barrier methods, and medical interventions, some people seek options for holistic management of fertility alongside or instead of these interventions.

Using herbal medicine to prevent pregnancy can be complex. This course empowers students to deeply understand the physiology of preventing pregnancy, including altering ovulation, preventing implantation, and releasing an early pregnancy (early abortion). Three plant allies are explored, each with unique bioregions, and different mechanisms and timings for preventing pregnancy. We also explore individualized planning for pregnancy prevention and what works for different situations and bodies.

Bonus lessons explore harvesting and making your own medicine for embodied engagement with herbal medicine for preventing pregnancy, and sourcing high quality pre-made medicines for pregnancy prevention. A FAQ section helps answer common questions, with space made to contact instructors with further personal inquiry.

Is this class anti-pharmaceutical birth control?

No! We are pro-whatever works best for you. Diverse methods of managing fertility should be available to all, including the highly effective and accessible options of hormonal birth control (in all its delivery forms), Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (such as implants and IUDs), barrier methods, emergency contraception, permanent birth control methods, and more. Here’s a resource we love that explores a full range of clinical options. This class exists to add to this list of options, not prioritize some over others.
